Maple Glazed Doughnut Muffins

Maple Glazed Doughnut Muffins at DoingSplendid.comThese Maple Glazed Doughnut Muffins are so yummy! They reminded me of the maple bar doughnuts that I used to eat as a kid. Whenever my mom had to pick up doughnuts for meetings at work, she always got us kids one too. We had the best doughnut shop in our town!

Now these are not exactly the same (nothing could ever beat the doughnut shop’s doughnuts), but these are good and easy enough to make at home. Even on a school day. And they’re baked, so that makes them a little bit healthier, right? I just used my regular doughnut muffin recipe, but left off the cinnamon sugar coating and just covered the tops with the maple glaze. Oh, its delicious!

I didn’t really know what my kids would think of these doughnut muffins when I served it to them the first time, but they loved them. Especially, the older two. The littlest just wanted to lick the glaze off the muffin. 🙂

So, if you can’t visit my hometown’s doughnut shop, here’s a pretty good substitution!

Maple Glazed Doughnut Muffins

  • 1 cup white flour
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk

Maple Glaze: (adapted from I Heart Naptime)

  • 3 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray muffin tin with cooking spray. Combine flours, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sugar in a large bowl. Add in oil, egg, and milk and mix just until combined. Fill muffin tin with batter. Bake for 20 minutes or until done.

While muffins are cooking, mix together all the ingredients for the maple glaze. After the muffins have cooled slightly, drizzle with the maple glaze, or use a knife and frost the tops of the muffins.

They are delicious! Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
