The other day when I posted this delicious, Warm Bacon Ranch Dip, I talked about our impromptu football watching party we had a couple of weeks ago. This Sweet and Sugary Popcorn, along with our dipped rice krispie treats (post to come in the future ) were also on the menu.
I had originally planned to make our recipe for Purple Popcorn, but of course make it blue for our favorite football team, but when I pulled out our half and half, I realized it had gone bad. So, we needed a new plan and recipe, and one that we already had the ingredients for. Luckily, its not too hard to find new recipes on Pinterest.
In the end, we got to try out this Sweet and Sugary Popcorn and it was delicious! It would be fun to make it different colors for different holidays (or football games!) or just for a fun treat. You most likely have all the ingredients just sitting in your pantry, just like we did.
Sweet and Sugary Popcorn
slightly adapted from here
- 1 cup un-popped popcorn kernels (affiliate link)
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 Tablespoons water
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- Food coloring
First pop your popcorn kernels. (We have this Orville Redenbacher’s Fountain Hot Air Popper (affiliate link) and we love it!) Put in a large bowl and then set aside.
In a saucepan, mix the sugar, water, butter, and food coloring together and stir constantly until it boils. When it starts to boil, immediately pour it onto the popped popcorn and stir to coat. Let it cool and then enjoy!
My kids loved the popcorn and honestly I had a hard time stopping myself from eating too much! It was tasty!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
