Potato Print Penguin

Potato Print Penguin Card at DoingSplendid.comI have one more thing that I wanted to post before Christmas becomes all consuming (in a wonderful, fabulous way of course!). We made this cute Potato Print Penguin card to mail out to our family and friends (a year or so ago 🙂 ) to wish them a Merry Christmas. We got this great idea from here and wanted to try it out for ourselves.

My kids loved helping with this because it was fun and easy to do. I bought the blank, brown cards at Amazon and used regular black, white, and orange craft paint to make our little potato print penguin.

We made the big black oval by cutting a potato in half lengthwise and using that for our stamp. The smaller white circle was made by cutting another potato in half width-wise (Is that even a word?). Hopefully you get the idea. The beak and the feet were made with the fingerprints of my kids and I. And what kid (or adult for that matter) doesn’t love to get their fingers all messy with paint? 🙂

After the paint was all dry, I hot glued the googly eye on (and admired the cuteness). I bought a Merry Christmas stamp (from Amazon) for the inside of the card too.

These little penguins are so cute on our Christmas cards, but they would also be a fun winter craft for kids. It would have been a great addition to my Penguin Preschool! Oh, how I wish I would have thought of that before just now. Anyway, this little penguin is super cute and I think its time to bring out the craft paints again and make some more little penguins to decorate our wintry windows!
