The last time that I was in charge of our preschool group, my job was to teach about the color red. I decided we better read the story, The Little Red Hen, and do a little craft to go with it. This is what I came up with!

I got the idea from here but changed it a little to fit with the children in our group and the materials that I already had on hand. It’s pretty obvious how I made this one, but the kids were much more creative with theirs. I wish I would have taken pictures. They loved gluing feathers all over their little red hen!

We already owned the book, but I bought it from Amazon a few years ago.

The Little Red Hen is a great book to help teach kids cooperation and working with others! In preschool, we talked about how important it was that they helped around their own homes and how happy it makes their family when we all work together!

We also sang a song about the color red. I wish that I could tell you where I found this song, but I found it a couple of years ago and can’t find it anymore. It is sung to the tune “Are You Sleeping.”

The kids really loved the song and could sing it after we had only sung it together a couple of times. We finished off our day of red with eating red colored food: strawberries and apples!

I love teaching preschool, especially when my own kids are in the class!
