Mom School: Music Cube

preschool music cubeWe are part of a little preschool co-op with other moms and kids in our neighborhood, so I get to teach a whole group of preschoolers every 5 weeks or so. I love doing it and we have a great time, but sometimes…things get a little crazy and I need something quick and easy to help focus the children. The music cube has never failed me in getting the kids’ attention and having fun!

I wrote different songs on each side of the music cube, so we just throw the cube up and sing whichever song is facing up when it lands.

I have used this music cube at home with my own kids, in the nursery at church, and I used another cube with church songs when I was the primary music leader. I haven’t met a kid yet that didn’t want to roll the cube to see what song we will sing. I also love it because it is soft and doesn’t hurt if it is thrown at you or other children! 🙂

music cubeMaking it is very simple. I just cut out 6 squares of fabric from scraps that I had (mine is about 6 inches square). Then I wrote the songs on it with permanent marker that I thought would be fun.

The songs on this cube are: Wheels on the Bus, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, Do as I’m Doing, If You’re Happy, and Old MacDonald. There are so many fun songs that could be used!

I sewed up the sides into a cube shape, leaving one side open to turn it right side out, stuffed it with batting, and then sewed the open side shut by hand.

So…make one! The kids in your life will be so happy! I think all kids just love music and love to sing!

Great idea. Music is always a winner to grab little ones attention.
