Magnetic Fishing Game

Magnetic Fishing Game at DoingSplendid.com I made this fun magnetic fishing game for one of my son’s birthdays and it has been a hit with my kids ever since! We love to get it out and play with it together! I have made a lot of fishing poles, so everyone can play at the same time. Kids love to see how many fish they can hold on their poles at one time. It is a really fun game!

So, today I thought I would share with you how I made our magnetic fishing game and then you can make one too.

*This is definitely a game that you will want to supervise closely and shouldn’t be used with very young children or kids who like to put things in their mouths. I tried to make this activity as safe as possible, but you will want to watch carefully for loose magnets and buttons, so nothing gets swallowed that shouldn’t be and make sure children do not put the fishing pole ropes around themselves or others. You can shorten the ropes on the fishing poles if you would like to make it safer.

Materials needed:

  • felt
  • embroidery thread
  • buttons
  • magnets
  • wooden dowels
  • thin rope
  • glue

First, I cut out a simple felt fish shape. Then I securely fastened on a button for the eye. Then I stitched around the outside of the fish ( I think it is called a blanket stitch, correct me if I’m wrong), leaving a little opening to slide the magnet into the nose of the fish, finished stitching around the fish and then sewing right along next to the magnet to secure it into place. For our game, I made 6 fish.

Magnetic Fishing Game at DoingSplendid.com I also wrapped a little bit of tape around the end, for the handle, but you don’t have to do that part. Then I cut a little lake out of some blue fabric and let the kids play!

Magnetic Fishing Game at DoingSplendid.comThey really do love this game and can play it for quite awhile without losing interest. We love our magnetic fishing game!

Lovely game. Fishing is good fun and I love the little river the fish are swimming in too.
