I think this wooden, DIY Love Sign is so cute! I made it for a friend’s bridal shower and now I need to make one for our own house!
I first saw the idea here, and while I absolutely love their sign, I currently don’t have those kind of tools or space, for that matter, to do that type of sign. So, I had to think a little more simply. At Joann, I found a wooden board and the wooden letters that fit just perfectly together and knew that I could make the love sign too, just a little bit differently!
- Wooden board
- Wooden letters
- Gorilla glue (or another type of strong glue)
- Black acrylic paint
- White acrylic paint
- Finishing spray
The first thing we need to do is to glue the letters onto the board how you want them to look. Follow the directions on your glue! I know the directions on mine were different than what I would have thought.
Then paint around the edges of the board and the edges of the letters black. When that is dry, run your candlestick around the edges too. The edges need to have wax on them. That way when you sand, the top paint will come right off where you want it to.
Then start painting. This is mine after 1 coat. Obviously, it needs a little more work!
Give it enough coats that you can’t see the black through the white paint any more.
Then sand around the edges that you want the black paint to show through.
When it is all finished, spray with a finishing spray and you are all finished! Pretty easy right?! Doesn’t it look lovely on our mantle! I really need to make one for myself!
Have a fabulous day!
