My Favorite Laundry Tips - Doing Splendid

My Favorite Laundry Tips

Laundry Tips at DoingSplendid.com

For me, laundry is just one of those things that completely exhausts me. On laundry days you might find me lying in a pile of clean clothes wishing I could take a nap instead of folding them and putting them away. But it is something that has to be done, so these are my favorite laundry tips to change doing the laundry from completely exhausting to slightly less exhausting!

1. Choose a day or days of the week that you will do the laundry and try to stick with it. I know that if I only have to do laundry on just a few days of the week it makes me more likely to get the job completely finished. On my special laundry days, I make sure that everything is also folded and put away. I don’t want laundry creeping into my non-laundry days!

2. I usually wash the laundry by room. That’s sort of confusing. Let me explain. I have two kids who share a room upstairs, two kids who share a room downstairs, and then may husband and I also share a room. 🙂  I wash all the downstairs laundry on Monday, my husband’s and mine plus towels and bedding on Tuesday, and the upstairs kids on Wednesday. It might sound a little strange to do it this way, but keeping the clothing separate sure helps with the sorting of who’s clothes are who’s, and the folding and putting away part. And it also helps the laundry from being so overwhelming. The loads are slightly smaller this way, but they are definitely still full loads of laundry!

3. Use a timer. My most favorite tip of all is using a timer when folding and putting the clothes away and then trying to beat my lowest time. I have one load of laundry that is predictably the largest load of laundry with the most articles of clothing, and I used to dread folding it all. Then I started using a timer. I know that if I fold my fastest (not my best, or prettiest, just fastest) I can fold that load and put it away in under 8 minutes! Its not so bad when I know it will only take 8 minutes out of my day!

So there you have it, my 3 favorite laundry tips! Don’t they just make you want to get up and do the laundry?! Ya, me neither!

Have a great day!

Great tips! Thanks for linking up with Share the Wealth Sunday. I’m sharing this post on my Facebook wall on Tuesday. With another baby on the way, I need as much laundry advice as I can get!

Laundry seems to multiply faster than the children sometimes! 🙂 Congratulations on the new baby!

I use to exhaust myself with doing laundry all in one day. Yep! Four to five loads a day. That’s a complete day of washing, drying, folding, hanging, and putting clothes away. It was killing my body which was already fighting daily chronic pain. After moving and having to use a communal laundry, I stick with one load a day first thing in the morning. I’m usually done with laundry by the time the kids have left for school and I’m not completely drained and aching all over.

Thanks for sharing your tips! I found your post at Inspire Me Mondays!

Good tips! I usually save all my laundry for one day, but sometimes, it still doesn’t get done. I think the thing I hate most about laundry is going up and down the stairs! Our bedrooms are all on the second floor, and the washing machine is in the basement! I love the idea of setting a timer (but with a 2 year old “helping” fold laundry, some days I spend more time refolding ;)). Thanks for sharing at Idea Box!
