Little Man Ties

little boys tieA few years ago, a friend invited me and a few other moms to come over to her house for a little man ties making party and I have been sewing this pattern ever since! With 3 little boys in our house, we have made a lot of ties!

The tie pattern comes from the blog Very Homemade. The pattern is free and she does a great job showing how to make it. It is so simple, easy, and fast to make. It is a great project for those who are just beginning to sew. Oh, and it takes such a small amount of fabric, that you can use scrap pieces to make it. I love this pattern.

My friend, Bryanna, really likes this pattern too. When adding a tie keeper on the back of the tie, she suggested just tacking the four corners of a piece of ribbon or double fold bias tape. I thought that was a great idea! Usually, the tie keeper annoyed me so much that I just left it off, but this is so much better! This is how it looks…

boys tieI gave these two ties to a boy who had a special birthday a couple of weeks ago! I thought he needed a new tie for his baptism! And I have to say that he looks really handsome in a tie…

(P.S. This is not one of the ties that I made recently. I made it a couple of years ago. See, I told you I’ve used this pattern a lot!)

One last note about the ties: I did lengthen the pattern a little for his ties since he is getting older and taller. I just cut the pattern in half, added about 4 inches in the middle (making sure all the lines continued to match up), and then taped the pattern all together (does that make sense?). Also, I don’t use the interfacing that the pattern suggests and I think it turns out great.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Thanks Bryanna! I love when I can get a lot of use out of a pattern! And thanks for the tip on the tie keeper. It has saved me a ton of time and frustration! 🙂

Of course now we’ll need a tutorial on how to tie them and getting the boys to actually wear them! They are just adorable.

I’d love you to link this up at Two Uses Tuesday Linky Party!
