Our kids love to set up a Leprechaun Trap the night before St. Patrick’s day to try to catch our Leprechaun, Beardy! Beardy has been playing lots of tricks on our family such as…
making a mess with our books and…
…toilet papering our bathroom! St. Patrick’s day is the day to catch him so the kids can get his gold! So…the kids build a leprechaun trap!
I let the kids do all of the planning and I just help where they need me to. We always use things we already have around the house, so its a fun and easy project.
*Please note that the following pictures are 2 and 3 years old, so the picture quality is not that great. I took these before I even thought about starting a blog! 🙂
For this first trap, they found the tall bowl from our ice cream maker and made stairs with legos leading up to it. They thought that if they could entice the leprechaun into the bowl that he wouldn’t be able to get out! They decided to entice the leprechaun with mini donuts!
We made these by putting frosting on cheerios and then dipping them in sprinkles. They are cute little things!
And here they are inside the trap, just waiting to catch an unsuspecting leprechaun!
But, as we all know, leprechauns are very tricky and hard to catch! This one ate the donuts, made a mess, left the kids a little note, and then used straws to make a ladder to escape!
The next year, they had a different approach. They made their trap like a hotel, with a comfy bed, swimming pool, and fancy treats.
But it happened again! The leprechaun just can’t be caught!
The leprechaun loves to make a mess of the trap, but the kids are consoled with the “gold” (candy) the leprechaun does leave for them!
Leprechaun traps are fun! I can’t wait to see what the kids have planned for this year!
Have you ever made a leprechaun trap?
