Mom School: Fizzy Rainbow - Doing Splendid

Mom School: Fizzy Rainbow

Fizzy RainbowWe had so much fun with our fizzy rainbow! We found this idea at Fun at Home with Kids and thought that the fizzy rainbow was a great way to start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day!  The boys loved the initial explosion of foam and then loved playing in it afterward!

If you would like to do this to, here is how we did it.

Materials Needed

  • Baking soda
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Food coloring
  • Vinegar
  • Cups
  • Tray

Pour about 1/4 cup baking soda in each cup. Mix in a squirt of dish soap and food coloring. We only used red, yellow, blue, and green, but it would have been lots of fun to mix some colors!

Then place the cups on some sort of tray or dish to catch the foam. I poured about 1/4 cup  vinegar into 4 little bowls so the boys could pour them into the cups. Now get ready for the fun!

Pour (or have the kids pour) the vinegar into the cups. Then watch the fun explosion of colors! The dish soap mixed into the baking soda makes it really foamy.

exploding rainbowYes, older brother pushed little brother’s hand in first, so he would know if it was dangerous or something! 🙂

They loved exploring it all after it was all finished foaming!

Great activity. I reckon this would be great for N to try, and I could see it working for a party he’ll have too – hopefully in the garden. #letkidsbekids
