Jungle Snake Sandwich

jungle dinnerA couple of weeks ago, my son was invited to his very first Blue and Gold Banquet for the cub scouts. He is not quite old enough to go to cub scouts, but the leaders thought it would be a good experience for him, so we went!

The theme was The Jungle Book, so the leaders wanted all the food to go with the jungle theme. We found this jungle snake sandwich from MyRecipes.com and knew it would be perfect!

jungle sandwichOurs isn’t quite as fancy, but probably a little bit more kid friendly. We just used 3 frozen bread dough loaves, thawed them, shaped them into the snake shape, and then let them rise a little bit longer. At this point, I was going to make cuts on the top to make it look cool after it baked, but I forgot. I just baked the bread, and it still turned out fine.

After cooking and cooling, we sliced the bread so we could fill it with turkey, ham, and cheese. I cut a little piece of red pepper for the tongue. I also used pimento-stuffed green olives for the eyes. I just cut a little piece of the bread out and inserted the eyes.

We thought the snake looked pretty awesome and when we got to the banquet we realized that everyone else thought they were awesome too because in total there were 3 snake sandwiches to eat! Oh, Pinterest…where we all find the exact same ideas! 🙂

Jungle Snake SandwichThis was a fun experience working with our son to plan and prepare this meal! I can’t believe he is growing up so fast!

Have you ever attended a Blue and Gold Banquet? It was my very first time. Did you have to bring themed food?

Have a great day!
